Tiger Owen could be out for the season

Castleford full-back Richard Owen could be out for the rest of the season after suffering a broken leg against Bradford on Friday.

Owen, 18, broke both his tibia and fibula in the 41-22 defeat to the Bulls at the Grattan Stadium and will undergo an operation this week, but boss Terry Matterson says it looks likely he will be out for the rest of the campaign.

Despite his condition, Owen – speaking from Bradford Royal Infirmary – is philosophical about his circumstances saying: “These things happen in sport, I’ll be OK.”

The Normanton youngster made his debut for the Tigers in 2007 and scored 13 tries in 24 games in his first season in the top flight in 2008. He established himself as a key member of the Castleford first team in 2009.

Tigers scrum-half Brent Sherwin may miss a second consecutive game after suffering a recurrence of a knee injury which he sustained in the off-season. The former Canterbury Bulldogs half-back sat out Friday’s defeat at Bradford.
