Thunder surprised by Lo’s departure

Newcastle Thunder have confirmed that Papua New Guinean player Gary Lo has left the country and returned home.

They have admitted, however, that the situation has come as a surprise, and that full details regarding the matter are still unclear.

A club statement reads:

“Newcastle Thunder have received notification that contracted squad member Garry Lo has left the United Kingdom.

“Lo, who entered into a contract alongside fellow Papua New Guineans Mark Mexico, Jason Tali and Charlie Wabo over the winter, failed to report to training on Wednesday.

“It is believed he has returned to Papua New Guinea and comes as a surprise to both the club and his team mates.

“With the circumstances surrounding Lo’s departure unclear, Thunder will be making no further comment at this time.”
