Three Oldham players to go under the knife

New signing Nathan Chappell will be the first of three Oldham players to face operations within the next few weeks.

The former Sheffield Eagles centre or second-row forward will have a knee ‘cleaned out’ surgically on November 30.

Centre or half-back Danny Grimshaw, waiting for a groin operation, is expected to be in before Christmas, both he and Chappell facing the type of surgery that won’t keep them out for long.

Not so lucky is Craig Briscoe, whose major reconstruction of a knee is likely to be done in January, after which he will face a long period of rehab and recuperation.

In other injury news, prop Jack Spencer is currently limited to modified pre-season work because of a slight groin strain, but he should be back in full training in a week to ten days.

Utility man Sammy Gee, who damaged an ankle at Bradford Bulls on August 21, has had extensive treatment over the past three months and has now resumed normal training.
