Thorman recalls big guns for Rhinos test

York City Knights Player Head Coach Chris Thorman is set to recall the bulk of his more ‘senior’ players for Sunday’s pre season friendly against Superleague Champions Leeds Rhinos. Thorman fielded a more inexperienced line up in last weeks narrow defeat against an experienced Keighley Cougars outfit, but despite the encouraging performance he is keen to give all of his squad ample game time before the start of the Northern Rail Cup.

James Ford is set to return in the centres, while Thorman himself could feature in the halves. Adam Sullivan will make his second debut for the club, after returning to the club from the Hunslet Hawks, while club captain Alex Benson and hooker Jack Lee are also recalled to the squad. Thorman will also give debuts to winger Waine Pryce and former Hull FC and Great Britain prop Paul King, providing a minor back problem clears up.

Latest recruit Jordan Tansey, a former Grand Final winner with the Rhinos, will also make his Knights debut against his former club while duel registration duo Ben Hellewell and Brooke Broughton will also make their first appearance for the club.

Commenting on the game Thorman said,

“I was pleased with many aspects of last weeks game and now some of our more experienced players have the opportunity to stake their claim for a place in the team”. Once again training has been excellent and I know everyone is keen to play again this week”.

Sunday’s match kicks off at 3pm and turnstiles will open at the usual time of 1:30pm. Vice Presidents can gain access to the Vice Presidents lounge from 12:30pm on production of their 2012 Vice Presidents Season Ticket, either at the information point or through a ticket turnstile. Vice Presidents who have not yet collected their Season Ticket will be able to do so from the information point. Please note regular season tickets do not include entry to pre season friendlies.
