Thompson: Wigan is Super League’s best bet

Ex-NRL winger Corey Thompson believes Wigan Warriors are Super League‘s best chance of getting a win over Australian opposition in the World Club Series this weekend.

St Helens take on the Roosters tonight, Wigan meet Brisbane tomorrow and Leeds play North Queensland on Sunday night. Last year it was 3-0 from the three games to the NRL teams.

Thompson, who spent the past two years with the Bulldogs before joining Widnes, is expecting Roosters and Cowboys victories.

“I think both the Cowboys and Roosters should win but Broncos and Wigan will be a good game,” he told Love Rugby League.

“That game will be close.”

Thompson bagged a hat-trick in the Vikings demolition of Leeds last weekend. Widnes face Salford, fresh from their win against Saints, on Sunday.

“Salford are going to be tough to beat at their home,” he said.

Robert Lui is a good player. I remember what he was like in the NRL, and Junior Sa’u is a good centre.”
