Hull FC forward Jordan Thompson has thanked team-mate Joe Westerman for helping him earn a new deal at the club.

Thompson inked a two-year contract extension this week, and he puts some of that down to the advice Westerman has given him.

“I want to kick on now. I can tell in myself at training every day that I have developed in the role,” he said, according to the Hull Daily Mail.

“I owe Joe Westerman for some of that too, because he’s been a big help to me.

“I feel much more comfortable coming onto the ball now and Westy has encouraged me at training to do more with the ball.

“I’m not sure I was confident enough to do that last year being new in the role, but I’m certainly confident enough now and hopefully I can improve on last year.”

Hull opened their Super League campaign with a fine win at Huddersfield. Their first home game of the season comes on Friday night, against the Warrington Wolves.

“We know Warrington will provide a massive test for us and the test is there to show that we can back up last week’s performance with another good result,” said Thompson.

“It’s not easy, but we’re confident.”
