Alex Thompson is the latest player to commit his future to North Wales Crusaders, signing a new one-year deal.

Thompson, a former Warrington academy player, arrived in Wrexham from League One counterparts Oxford RLFC in 2015.

After a number of successful seasons for the Welsh outfit he endured a tough season in 2017 and was limited to just four appearances due to injury.

On re-signing, Thompson said: “I’m really happy to have signed again for next year.

“It’s a fantastic club and we’ve got a fantastic bunch of lads here.

“Last year was a difficult one for me but I’m looking forward to getting back to fitness and I want to return to the standard I was at a few seasons ago.”

Crusaders head coach Mike Grady said: “Alex is another good re-signing for the 2018 season.

“We all know what he brings to the table and how good he is on his day.

“He’s a tough, solid player in both attack and defence and causes opposing teams problems.

“Alex was unlucky last year as he picked up an injury, but he showed his qualities in the games that he played.

“I’m confident that after a full pre-season he will be refreshed and ready to hit the 2018 campaign running.”
