The Super League players facing bans including St Helens and Hull KR stars

There are just five rounds left in the 2026 Super League season – meaning that every disciplinary incident could be more important than ever.

With a whole host of players just one mistake away from a possible charge and suspension at the business end of the season, there are some big disciplinary calls to be made over the coming weeks: and Round 22’s review will be no different.

Here are the players we spotted over the weekend who may have a nervous wait for a phone call from the Match Review Panel on Monday morning..

Joe Batchelor

We start all the way back on Thursday night and St Helens’ big defeat to Hull FC. There were a few incidents that caught our eye in that game, including one where Black and Whites forward Joe Batchelor looked like he caught Jackson Hastings late after a kick.

Batchelor has been hugely important to Hull in recent weeks; he’s a player that they can ill afford to lose for a period of time – even just one match.

George Whitby

Saints fans have a nervous wait to find out just how bad young half-back George Whitby’s latest injury is, after he left the field with a knee issue on Thursday. But there may also be a disciplinary fear hanging over his head, too.

Whitby was placed on report after being involved in a hip drop tackle on Hull captain Aidan Sezer. Fortunately, Sezer was able to carry on without any ill effect, which will hopefully be reflected in any decision. In truth, it looked a harsh decision. But if there is deemed to be foul play, it will be another worry for the Saints to contend with.

Herman Ese’ese

He was back to his very best on Thursday night – but there’s every chance that Hull’s talismanic prop, Herman Ese’ese, may also be in some disciplinary jeopardy. He caught Jack Welsby late and without the ball, which means there’s every chance he could land a charge that may put him in some trouble.

Joe Burgess

Rovers winger Joe Burgess was penalised on the field on Friday night in the big win over Castleford Tigers for a spear tackle that immediately caught the eye. The nature of the challenge was dangerous enough for it to be picked up by the match officials, which means there’s a fair chance it will be put under review by the MRP.

Could Burgess be in danger of a charge and a possible ban?

Franck Maria

The big disciplinary talking point of the weekend was undoubtedly Catalans Dragons prop Franck Maria – who was shown a straight red card in their heavy loss at Huddersfield Giants on Saturday afternoon.

Maria was sent off after a shocking tackle on the Giants forward George King, and while John Cartwright insisted post-match he still needed to see clearer footage before making a verdict, the prospect of a ban is likely.

And not just that: a big one, too. His season could well be drawing to a premature close.
