The State of Mind family

James Gordon

State of Mind returns this season with a family theme, and a reminder that rugby league creates opportunities for people to engage with others who share a common interest.

Rugby league is playing its part in raising awareness, providing information and advice and signposting, tackling stigma associated with mental health problems and reaching groups who may not normally access usual health service/support.

Fans and amateur players can learn lessons from sportsmen and women and coaches about handling pressures coping with setbacks/adversity and motivation of self and others.

One of the 10 ways to look after your mental health is to keep in touch – attending games, be it at grass roots or Super League level, gives people the opportunity to mix and be around friends and family, away from whatever’s going on inside their head.

One of the key components of your support network is the theme for this year’s State of Mind round – family.

Fans are being encouraged to share the video and their experiences using the hashtag, #SOMFamily.

Be sure to approach State of Mind volunteers at games across Super League Round 25.
