The one superstition that lives with RFL boss Ralph Rimmer to this day

Drew Darbyshire

RFL chief executive Ralph Rimmer has one particular superstition that has been with him for as long as he can remember.

Rimmer wears odd socks everyday. It’s not so much a secret in the rugby league community – but some fans probably won’t know the fun fact about the RFL boss.

He told Sky Sports’ Golden Point Podcast: “I can’t even remember how long I’ve had it but most of the rugby league community know it. I always wear odd socks, always.

“I don’t think I did as a player. My playing career was cut short by someone who recognised my abilities too quickly.

“I played rugby league all my life, I was an international student-wise and I managed to get into the Barrow second team while they were in the top division which I think was around 1988.

“The coach at the time was Rod Reddy and after seeing me play three or four times, he gave me the phone call to say ‘I think you’ve got a long career in rugby league ahead of you but it’s definitely not as a player’. I’ve got odd socks on now!”
