Taylor takes bar job

Dave Taylor has taken a part-time pub job as he seeks to make a return to the NRL with Canberra.

Taylor joined the Raiders on a pre-season trial to try and win a contract after he was released by Catalans.

The forward will return to train with the Raiders after Christmas, but he has yet to win a contract.

Canberra coach Ricky Stuart has helped Taylor get a position with the Top Pub in Queanbeyan in his spare time.

“He wanted to do some work around his footy and with our training schedule that takes a lot of options out,” Stuart told The Canberra Times.

“David is interested in the hotel game and certainly has the personality for it.

“The first thing that comes to mind is that we’re putting him into an environment that is certainly going to challenge him and I think that’s a wonderful challenge for himself.

“It’s good that he’s spending some of his spare time with another interest.

“How he handles the challenge of being in that environment can be taken in two ways.

“One, I know he’ll be very good for the hotel because he’s got a great personality, a good guy, but at the end of the day it’s about the right choices and David’s still got a way to go to cement his position here at the club – but he’s doing everything right.”
