Paul Sykes has signed a new one-year deal with Wakefield.

Sykes, 31, joined the club from Bradford last season and will now remain with the Wildcats until the end of 2014.

The playmaker was a key component as Wakefield made the play-offs last season, but he is currently sidelined due to a broken leg.

“It’s been a bit of an up and down season for me personally and I’m looking forward to starting afresh next year and stay the whole season injury free,” he said.

“After the first injury I got back playing and just started to get my fitness back, then I break my leg.

“It’s pretty frustrating because I’ve been pretty lucky up until this year with injuries, so I’m just looking forward to getting all things right for next year.

So far in his career, Sykes has made 279 club appearances, scoring 90 tries. He has also played for England on five occasions and gained a cap for Great Britain.
