Swinton all but secure Championship survival

Swinton have all but secured their place in the Championship next season, thanks to a 29-6 win over nearest rivals Oldham at the weekend.

Only the most outrageous points difference reversal will change things for the Lions, who celebrated the appointment of Andy Mazey as chairman in the perfect manner.

Barely weeks ago, the club’s future looked uncertain, but fans and partners of the club rallied round under new coach Stuart Littler to ensure survival.

They scored five tries in front of a 1,051 crowd at Heywood Road against the Roughyeds, who sit on 14 points and a points difference of -392, compared to Swinton on 16 points with -217.

Swinton travel to Toulouse for their final game of the season, while Oldham host Dewsbury.

The Roughyeds will join Bradford in being relegated to League 1, having spent the past two seasons in the Championship.
