Swinton have taken the first steps in team building for next season by re-signing Martin Ainscough and Chaz I’Anson.

Chairman John Kidd has tied down two of the club’s key players as the Lions attempt to climb up the Championship table in 2013.

Former Widnes, Rochdale and Blackpool stand-off Ainscough, 26, has been an ever-present for two seasons and is top try-scorer this season with 15 touchdowns.

I’Anson, 25, joined from Widnes at the start of the season and has played at loose forward and stand-off.

Assistant player-coach Ian Watson said: “Martin has been a really good player for us over the past two years.

“He’s very professional in his approach to the game and is a great person to have around the club.

“He has shown his versatility at centre and stand-off, playing both really well.

“Chaz is the same. He’s played at loose forward and in the halves, but he likes getting his hands on the ball and has settled in at the club really well.

“I know he’s enjoyed both positions and he’s not been too fussed where he has played as long as he has been playing.”

Swinton expect to announce more returning players next week as they prepare for next season.

The Lions play their last game of the season against Leigh Centurions at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday (2pm).
