Swinton coach wants more signings

Swinton are in the market for at least three more players before the start of the season.

Coach Steve McCormack is negotiating with a couple of Super League clubs with a view to bringing in extra bodies on loan or under dual-registration.

The Lions gave an impressive performance losing to Widnes in their first pre-season friendly on Sunday but only had six subs available.

“We just ran out of bodies,” said McCormack. “We are probably three of four players short of completing our squad and at the back end of the game that took it’s toll.

“Widnes are a big side and they had a lot of possession and put us under a lot of pressure.

“I’m talking to a couple of Super League clubs about the possibility of loan signings and dual registrations.”

McCormack will probably move to strengthen the pack where new signing Adam Higson played in the second row.

The former Leigh man said : “I play wherever I am needed. Last year I played every position apart from six and nine so I don’t mind where I play.

“But my best position is centre or second row and I don’t mind which of those I play.”
