Swinton have signed full-back Ben Heyes from amateur side Thatto Heath Crusaders for the 2020 campaign.

The 21-year-old has recently returned home from England Community Lions’ tour to New Zealand, and arrives at Heywood Road from St Helens-based community club Thatto Heath.

Lions coach Stuart Littler said: “Ben was man of the match in the recent second test match in New Zealand and comes to us from the highly successful Thatto Heath side.

“Ben is a young, exciting player who has bags of pace and potential.

“After meeting Ben with our assistant coach [Allan Coleman] and completing our due diligence, Ben will add real value to our squad and we will really see him grow in confidence over the next few weeks.

“I am positive that we can provide the platform to catapult Ben up to the next level and he has certainly made a great start in training.”
