Swinton boss pleased with McConnell

Steve McCormack reckons Dave McConnell will bring the experience and expertise that can help Swinton climb the Championship table.

The former St Helens, Chorley, Rochdale and Leigh hooker has been training with the Lions for three months after 18 months out following a broken leg.

He made his debut in Sunday’s cup win against Siddal and coach McCormack said: “I now Dave really well. He’s played for me for Scotland for a lot of years.

“He is an outstanding individual both on and off the field.

“He will get better and better because he is a tremendous individual.

“It will take him a while to get himself fully match fit but he’s a good acquisition for us, definitely.”

Meanwhile McCormack has cleared up the confusion surrounding Kevin Penny.

The former Warrington winger hasn’t appeared for the Lions for a few weeks and has played a couple of games for amateurs Sale rugby union.

McCormack said: “He’s still with us and from now on as far as we’re concerned there will be no doubling up.

“Kev knows that and he’ll be available for selection this week.”
