Super League Preview: Huddersfield v Widnes

James Gordon

Widnes will be looking to make it a double scalp over Easter weekend when they travel to Huddersfield on Monday.

The Vikings are without their star recruit from the Giants in the off-season, Kevin Brown, through injury, while Patrick Ah Van, Ben Cross, Jon Clarke and Rhys Hanbury all drop out of the squad following Friday’s 38-22 win over Warrington.

Huddersfield’s own signing from Widnes in the off-season, prop Anthony Mullally, misses out on selection, as they look to bounce back from a surprise 21-20 defeat to Salford.

Huddersfield 19-man squad: Grix, George, Cudjoe, Wardle, McGillvary, Brough, Robinson, Crabtree, Lunt, Kopczak, Ferres, Faiumu, Lawrence, Patrick, Ta’ai, Murphy, Cording, Ferguson, Dawson.

Widnes 19-man squad: Allen, Briscoe, Cahill, Davies, Flynn, Gerrard, Gilmore, Gore, Hock, Isa, Joseph, Kavanagh, Lawton, Leuluai, Mellor, Pickersgill, White, Winterstein.

Prediction: Huddersfield will be reeling from their loss at Salford, while Widnes are missing several key players – home win.

Stats:

Widnes are seeking their first win at Huddersfield since a 20-14 Division One victory on 28 July, 1996.

The Giants have won five of their last six home meetings with the Vikings, with the sides also fighting out a 30-30 draw on 10 August, 2003.
