Super League has the X Factor

Rugby League fans can look forward to a generous sprinkling of the X Factor when the 2010 Engage Super League season kicks off in earnest this weekend.

As well as seeing the stars of the 14 Engage Super League clubs do battle on the pitch, fans will be entertained by three of the most high profile artists from the last series of ITV’s hugely popular X Factor.

The three – Danyl Johnson, Jedward and Olly Murs – will all take centre stage on Sunday when bumper crowds are expected at Wakefield, Hull KR and Warrington.

Schoolteacher Danyl Johnson, who narrowly missed out on a place in last year’s final, will have the Hearwell Stadium rocking during Wakefield Trinity Wildcats’ home match against Catalans Dragons on Sunday at 3.30pm.

The 27-year old wowed judges right from the start on X Factor with judge Simon Cowell describing his opening performance as the “best first audition ever.”

Irish twins John and Edward reached the final 12 contestants alongside Johnson, and were renowned for their sweeping hairstyles and unique stage presence.

The duo – better known as Jedward – are now on course for topping the singles charts with their version of Vanilla Ice’s ‘Under Pressure’ and will have the stands and terracing at the Halliwell Jones Stadium rocking when they head up the pre-match entertainment before Warrington Wolves’ fixture against Harlequins RL.

Olly Murs completes the weekend’s star studded line-up by playing a supporting role to Hull Kingston Rovers against Salford City Reds at Craven Park.

Murs beat off competition from thousands of aspiring musicians to secure a place in the X Factor final where he sang with former Take That star Robbie Williams. However, the 25-year old agonisingly lost out to eventual winner Joe McElderry to finish runner up in the ITV hit show.

All three Engage Super League clubs are reporting significant demand for tickets and fans who attend any of the games are promised an X Factor weekend to remember.
