Successful Scorpions hold open trials

South Wales Scorpions will be holding open trials again to boost their squad for the 2011 Co-operative Championship 1 season.

The Scorpions, who play their home matches at The Gnoll in Neath, had an outstanding first season in professional rugby league scoring 102 tries and 602 points and qualifying for the end of season play-offs in sixth position.

The trial will be on Sunday 5th December at a time and venue to be decided but players are advised to get their applications in as early as possible to avoid disappointment as over 100 players applied for a place in this year’s squad.

Scorpions coach Anthony Seibold said: “We have had a fantastic season and we are now looking for more Welsh born and bred and Welsh based players to play professional Rugby League for us in 2011.

“We had 24 Welsh born and bred players in our squad in 2010 and 15 of them took part in our last open trial in January. These included players like Steve Parry, who scored 19 tries this year, made the Wales squad and is up for the Championship 1 Young Player of the Year award, and Neil Dallimore who at 29 years old, had no previous Rugby League experience, was a regular in the side and made the Championship One Team of the Month side in May.

“These are just two of our success stories that the open trial brought us earlier this year and I could name a lot more. Don’t miss out on the opportunity of being involved in something special for 2011.”
