Stringer eyes Scottish support role

Sheffield Eagles prop Mitchell Stringer will be recovering from surgery when Scotland play in this year’s European Championship.

The 30-year-old is keen to stay with the Scottish camp, however, and offer his considerable experience to Steve McCormack’s backroom staff.

“I need an operation, so I’m booked in for the fifth of October,” he told Love Rugby League.

“Hopefully Steve McCormack will have a role for me, though. He might need a spare kit man or a water boy or something. I want to get involved.

“I’ve been with Scotland for the last six years, and I’d hate to miss out. Hopefully Steve will get back in touch with me and offer me a part to play.”

Stringer hopes that his Scotland career can continue beyond this year, but he remains focused on paying well for Sheffield before getting carried away with talk of a Four Nations appearance in the future.

He added: “I’ve got another two years left at Sheffield, so I’ve got to concentrate on that, but we’ll see what happens on the back of that.”
