Stone set to welcome Grix back

Huddersfield coach Rick Stone is set to welcome fullback Scott Grix back into his line-up for the trip to Salford on Sunday.

The game is the opening match of the Giants’ Qualifiers campaign, in which they will be looking to secure Super League rugby next season.

While Jermaine McGillvary and Tommy Symonds will miss out, Grix should return to offer some options for Stone at full back.

“The two major ones are Jerry [McGillvary] and Tommy Symonds, they are doubtful for this week,” Stone told his club’s official website.

“I think Grixy will be back for this week, he has trained strongly and declared himself fit. We are in better shape and we’re in a bit of a better position to what we were in the first two weeks I arrived.

“Jake [Connor] came off with a knock against Warrington last week and he had an early easy part of the week last week but he has trained strongly since.”

Ryan Brierley has also played at fullback this season for the Giants, and Stone is pleased with the competition for places he has in his squad in the position.

“We need competition for spots and that’s a good one,” Stone added.

“Grix is an experienced professional and he brings that to the table. Ryan is still learning in that position and adds a little bit of zip to our team when he plays there.

“It is good competition and keeps both of them on their toes. We’ve probably got a fair idea of what we are going to do there but we will make a decision after our next training session.”
