Stone: Giants deserve credit for top eight finish

Huddersfield coach Rick Stone says his side deserve credit for making the Super 8s.

The Giants claimed the eighth and final place with a solid second half of the season, consigning Warrington and Catalans to The Qualifiers.

They are five points adrift of the top four, meaning a play-off appearance is unlikely, but Stone still wants to give a good account of themselves in the run in.

He told the club’s official website: “I think everyone deserves a bit of credit. All the players and staff have worked hard.

“There were times there when we struggled a bit to find our groove but to their credit they kept working and slowly started to believe and grasp what we were talking about over the last 12 months.

“Considering that after ten rounds it didn’t look good, we got Jake Mamo and Leroy Cudjoe back and a few other boys which gave us a bit of impetus.

“Along with that came a bit of belief and a bit better understanding in the game and the effort and concentration was better.

“Our penalty count came down and our errors did too so we gave ourselves a chance in all the games we played so I think the boys are in a good place at the moment considering where we’re up to.

“Our focus is to win as many games as we can. If that works out on us getting the top four then that’s our ultimate goal. Everyone in the Super 8s has aspirations of being in there. There’s 14 competitions points on offer and everyone is going to be playing each other.”
