Steve Price head coach of Warrington Wolves arrives at the Halliwell Jones Stadium ahead of kick-off

Warrington coach Steve Price says there’s a lot more to come from half-back partnership Blake Austin and Gareth Widdop following the 36-0 win over Wakefield.

Austin crossed for a hat-trick of tries as the Wolves made it five straight wins, in what Price said was the best performance by Austin and by the two as a pair this year.

He said: “I thought it was (Blake’s) best game for the season by far, the relationship that him and Gareth are building is really promising, I thought it was the best they had played to date, so it’s onwards and upwards.

“There’s a lot more to come yet, they’re just scratching the surface. It was a really big improvement from the last game and I’m just really pleased for them because they are working extremely hard in training.

“Really pleased with our attack in the first half, I thought our halves asked a lot of questions.

“The second half when we camped on our try line to keep a clean sheet against a team that ask a lot of questions from an attack point of view.

“It was really pleasing to keep them to zero because they’re a good attacking team.”

As well as Austin’s hat-trick, there were tries for Toby King, Josh Charnley and Ben Currie in a routine for the Wolves on their return to the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

It was another frustrating evening for Wakefield coach Chris Chester, who saw his already depleted side lose centre Bill Tupou and on-loan winger Bill Tupou.

They are back in action on Thursday night against Leeds at Headingley.

He said: “We’re doing it tough at the minute. We’re running out of outside backs.

“We’ve lost another game, we’ve got a big game on Thursday, I’ll have to check if we can put a team out!

“There was some positives to take out of that performance. We started the game well, and in the second half, take away them last couple of tries, and we really fronted up.

“They were too good, too quick, too physical, they were by far the better team.”
