Stewart outside chance for Origin

Injured Manly backrower Glenn Stewart faces a race against time to be ready for next Wednesday’s Origin decider in Brisbane.

Stewart hobbled off the Brookvale playing surface with a strained medial ligament in his knee during the loss to Melbourne in the last round, but could still yet feature for New South Wales.

He has been unable to train with the squad but is expected to step up his recovery by resuming light running today.

A final decision on Stewart’s fitness is expected on Sunday.

“We’ll get him to run properly [tomorrow],” said Blues doctor David Givney said.

“All he’s been doing so far is walking. But he’s been coming along exactly the way everyone wants him to. Sticky [Ricky Stuart] was happy to let him run on Sunday, but he [Stewart] is of the opinion he can do a little bit [tomorrow]. He wants to see how he goes.”
