Gareth Widdop showed some really good touches in his Super League debut, according to Warrington coach Steve Price.

The Wolves fell short to an 18-8 defeat against Wakefield at the Mobile Rocket Stadium on Sunday.

Widdop played his first game for Warrington after missing the first three works of the season due to an ankle injury.

Price said: “For his first hit-out, I thought he showed some really good touches. He’s only going to get better.

“Our tactical discipline with the ball let us down in crucial parts of the game. We just weren’t at the races.

“Credit to Wakefield, who I thought handled the conditions better than us. It was a slow game, we couldn’t generate any ruck speed.

“We didn’t get as much field position as we would have liked and, when we did, we should have been able to execute better.

“It was a clunky game, a frustrating game. We expect better so there’s a bit of thinking to do after that performance.”
