Steve McNamara makes changes to England ETS squad
England coach Steve McNamara has made changes to his Elite Training Squad ahead of England’s tri-series with Wales and France.
Warrington’s Ryan Atkins and Hull FC’s Danny Tickle are included in the ETS after strong performances for England against the Exiles.
However Ryan Bailey, Chris Bridge, Ian Henderson, Kris Welham and Kirk Yeaman miss out on another place in the squad from earlier this year.
The Elite Training Squad does not guarantee players selection ahead of this season’s internationals, but it does give a strong indication of the squad that McNamara will select ahead of the end-of-season tournament.
McNamara said: “With the Rugby League World Cup just over 12 months away our planning and preparation will step up over the year ahead to make sure we are competitive and ready to make a huge impact on the tournament.
“The door is not shut on those that have missed out this time around. As we approach the business end of the season, there is a lot to play for and there is no doubt that some players will progress and push for a place in the squad during the autumn series.
“We have a number of NRL based players that will be involved too and it is imperative that we continue to have competition for places across all positions.”
Meanwhile Chris Hill has been awarded a call up in the England Knights squad which will face Scotland and Ireland in the Alitalia cup.
He will join Tom Burgess, Kieran Dixon, Daryl Clark, Greg Eden Jack Hughes, Michael Lawrence and Jordan Turner as new faces to the Knights set up.
