Warrington full back Stefan Ratchford has expressed his excitement over his upcoming testimonial match against Wigan.

Ratchford was awarded a testimonial by the RFL as he enters an 11th season with the Wire. He signed from Salford back in 2012.

He has since made 276 appearances for Warrington, scoring 84 tries, 423 goals and two drop-goals. Ratchford has also helped Warrington to two Challenge Cups, and the League Leaders Shield.

Speaking to Warrington’s YouTube channel, he expressed his delight at the match.

He said: “It’s an absolutely massive game. It’s one of the first games I look for and forward to when the fixtures come out.

“To be able to get it as my testimonial game is really special. Also as a Wigan lad, it makes it that bit extra nice, I suppose.”

Ratchford is already a couple of weeks into his testimonial period, and has been thankful for the fans and the positivity they have shown in that period.

He added: “We’ve only had one event so far, but that went better than I could have expected. The first few weeks have been really positive and I am grateful to the fans for the support.”

Powell era to kick off against Wigan

New Head Coach Daryl Powell will coach the Wire for the first time against Wigan in Ratchford’s testimonial next month.

The former Castleford Head Coach replaced Steve Price in the role, after he decided to return to Australia upon the completion of the 2021 season.

After that, their first Super League game sees them travel up to Leeds on 12th February, with kick off at 12.30pm.

Just a week later, Powell will be reunited with his former employers as Castleford, now with Lee Radford at the helm, are the first visitors to the Halliwell Jones Stadium in the Super League.
