Widnes pair Stanton Albert and Brad Walker have joined League One side North Wales Crusaders on loan.

Albert, 22, followed his brother Wellington in moving to the Halton Stadium in the off season but is yet to make an appearance for the Vikings.

He last played for Papua New Guinea at the World Cup last autumn and spent last season with PNG Hunters.

Cumbrian Walker made his Super League debut back in 2016 and has made a total of four appearances in the top flight, but hasn’t featured yet this season.

They are both named in the Crusaders squad for this Sunday’s game against Hunslet.

Coach Mike Grady said: “We’ve got a few lads who are carrying knocks, so have brought in Stanton and Brad from Widnes to cover that gap.

“They’ve been training with us an have a fantastic attitude, so I’m sure they’ll be welcomed to the club by the supporters on Sunday.”

Crusaders recently announced a working partnership with the Vikings.

Widnes coach Denis Betts added: “We are pleased to launch this with the placements for Stanton and Brad. I’m looking forward to seeing how them both progress during the game.

We have good depth in key areas of our squad and several players in the transition from academy to first team rugby league.

“It is important that we find ways to give these players the chance to play competitive action and sustain their match sharpness for when they are called upon in the first team.”
