St Helens to welcome back Paasi while youngster suffers season-ending blow
St Helens head coach Kristian Woolf has confirmed that Agnatius Paasi will return to his side for their trip to Hull FC this Sunday.
Paasi, 30, missed last week’s home win over Castleford due to a head knock sustained against Salford.
The side will also welcome back Sione Mata’utia from his three-match suspension.
“We get Sione Mata’utia and Agnatius Paasi back and they’re two really big inclusions for us,” said Woolf.
“Agnatius has been one of our best players probably this year but certainly over the last couple of months.
“He’s made a real impact coming off the bench and has made a real impact with his opportunities starting as well. It’s great having him coming back into the side and the energy and impact he brings to the team.
“Sione Mata’utia is a really key player for us as well and someone we expect to come in and make a real big impact. It’s great having those two back.”
Will Hopoate will be monitored in the lead up to the game but could potentially return. Curtis Sironen misses out having received a two-match ban for a Grade B high tackle.
St Helens youngster suffers season-ending injury
The St Helens boss confirmed that 21-year-old Matty Foster has suffered a season-ending ACL injury that will require surgery.
“Unfortunately he has done his ACL,” Woolf said.
“He is going to require surgery. It’s devastating news, certainly for Matty first and foremost, but for everybody involved with Matty.
“His team-mates, the staff, we’re all gutted for him. The reason we’re all so gutted for him is because he’s a great kid who works really hard and has worked really hard over the last couple of years to keep overcoming adversity and keep overcoming some injuries and putting himself in a position to play. He’s done that exceptionally without any moans.
“Sometimes sport can be a cruel game and can certainly lead to a bit of bad luck and that’s what’s happened in this instance.
“We’re certainly going to support him and help him and he’s going to be in a position where he can get it right and get back on the field and be a Saints player and that’s certainly what we hope he’s going to be.”
Woolf confirmed that they club will offer the off-contract youngster an extended deal to support him through his recovery.
