St Helens quash stadium damage talk

St Helens have moved to quash reports that the adverse weather has caused serious damage to their Langtree Park home.

There were reports last night that the closure of a road passing the stadium, Peasley Cross Lane, was due to damage to the roof of the South Stand.

However, Saints later revealed that the road had been shut as a precaution after a sponsor’s sign blew off the outside of the stadium during the high winds that battered the local area.

A statement said: “The club wishes to correct misinformed statements as to storm damage at Langtree Park.

“The only damage was to an outside sign.

“Standard safety checks will now be conducted as a matter of course whilst the stadium remains fully operational.”
