St Helens chasing Luke Walsh

St Helens are chasing Penrith half-back Luke Walsh, although any deal is likely to be for next season onwards.

Walsh, 26, has been linked to Langtree Park as coach Nathan Brown looks to fill the void left by Jonny Lomax‘s switch to full-back.

As well as Lomax’s move, injuries to Lance Hohaia and Gary Wheeler have left Saints short in the halves so far this season.

Brown told the BBC: “He (Walsh) has got a skill set that would probably benefit most Super League teams.

“He kicks the ball very well, he’s got an ability to make other people look good and he’s a very good organiser.

“We’ve identified a number of players in a number of positions that we’re interested in, but we haven’t actually signed any players in any positions.”

Walsh has made more than 100 appearances in the NRL since making  his debut for Newcastle back in 2007.

An accomplished goalkicker, he moved to Penrith in 2009 and is approaching 250 points for the Panthers.
