St Helens 6-18 Wigan: Warriors go top with win over rivals Saints

Drew Darbyshire

Wigan went top of Super League after beating St Helens 18-6 in a game that had a little bit of everything at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

It took half an hour for the first try to be scored as a Jonny Lomax break saw Lachlan Coote race over. He converted his own try.

Wigan winger Jake Bibby got on the scoresheet just moments later though, but Zak Hardaker’s conversion attempt went just wide of the mark. Saints were 6-4 up at the break.

The Warriors took the lead for the first time in the 54th minute thanks to veteran half-back Tommy Leuluai.

Bevan French and Jackson Hastings then stretched Wigan’s lead to 18-6 with just 10 minutes left on the clock.

Wigan forward Joe Greenwood was sin-binned in the latter stages of the game for a high tackle on Matty Lees, but Adrian Lam’s side finished 18-6 victors.
