Soward urges Dragons to focus

Jamie Soward says he and his St George team mates need to go back to basics if they are to avoid another performance like the one against Parramatta.

The Dragons spluttered to an unconvincing 14-12 victory over the bottom of the ladder Eels, courtesy of a late try from centre Kyle Stanley.

And the Dragons need to focus on the basics if they are to improve their record going into the second half of the year, according to Soward.

“We were a completely different team than the one that played against Souths last week,” Soward told the club’s official website.

“We were looking like a team that had been in form, we were completing sets, and our kick-chase and kick pressure were great.

“We just didn’t have that against Parramatta.

“We dropped the ball at crucial times and didn’t complete our sets.

“You can’t play like that every week and expect to win,”

The Dragons currently sit tenth in the ladder and Soward insists they must improve if they are to have any chance of making the NRL‘s final eight.

He added: “It’s a crucial time of the year, and we’ve just got to keep building through this representative period and get as many wins as we can.”
