Sonny Bill Williams may have to wait to make his return to the NRL as his contract is yet to be registered with the governing bodies.

Arguably one of the biggest names in the sport, Williams, 27 signed a one-year deal with the Sydney Roosters. But with the start of the new season less than a week away it remains to be seen if he will play a part.

NRL spokesman John Brady said: We are waiting for some information that has been requested from the club. Everyone is aware of the need to process this as soon as possible.”

Williams did not feature in the NRL advertising campaign fuelling speculation about his move to the club.

Roosters chief executive, Brian Canavan said: “There’s a bit of paperwork to transpire. The registration is conditional on some paperwork to be supplied. There’s a bit more detail [required] in some of the correspondence we sent through, which is virtually assembled now.”
