Smith wary of wounded Hull KR

Wigan scrum-half Matty Smith was very pleased with the manner of the Warriors’ win over Hull KR last week.

But he is taking nothing for granted when the two teams meet again in the Challenge Cup on May 15.

“We’ve been working hard in training and we’re starting to come into some really good form on the pitch, which we showed in beating Hull KR 60-0,” Smith wrote in his blog on his club’s official website.

“Sometimes you can look at their team and see that they’ve got injuries – no Campese, Lunt or Mantellato in particular – and you can be a bit overconfident, but we’ve not let ourselves get like that and we’ve put a really professional performance in for 80 minutes.

“I thought we were really good, both in defence and attack. We threw a lot of shape at them, scored some nice tries and if you keep a team to nil, you’ve done really well.

“Saying that, we’ll be under no illusions when we play them in the Challenge Cup in two weeks.

“They’ll have players back, it’s a cup game and the loser goes out, so it’s an important game for both teams.

“We’re happy with the performance and the score, but we know we’ll be up against a different side.”
