Former Wigan halfback Tim Smith is set to play for Brisbane next season aftter signing a one-year contract with Queensland Cup outfit Easts.

“There’s be an opportunity for him there,” Brisbane Easts chief executive Des Morris has told Australian magazine Rugby League Week when asked if Smith can be called up by the Broncos under his new deal.

“He has signed a one-year deal. His manager got in touch with us. Tim was looking to restart his career at a lower level and we were only too happy to take him on.

“From all reports, he is very settled and keen to do well.”

Brisbane’s depth in the halves was exposed when Peter Wallace broke an ankle during the finals and Tonie Carroll had to fill in there for the preliminary final against Melbourne.
