Smith: We showed a lot of character

Warrington head coach Tony Smith praised the resilience of his side to come from behind and claim all two points against St Helens on Friday.

Saints took a 14-0 lead before the Wolves put in a dominant second-half performance to ease to a 40-18 victory at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

“They showed a lot of character tonight – we asked a few questions of Saints on their try line, but they held us up over the line a couple of times,” he said.

“I thought we were really spirited without some of the big name players within the team and the young guys stepped up tonight.”

Smith was particularly pleased with the way his team went out and bossed the second-half.

“We had the ball, we controlled the ball and didn’t make too many errors in that second half. Saints had to do a lot of tackling and that’s when you make mistakes,” he added.

“You can rack up points in this game nowadays.”
