Smith set to be handed GB role

The Great Britain coaches job is set be handed to Leeds coach Tony Smith.

The RFL announced last week that an appointment would be announced in the next fortnight, and it appears the Australian has got the nod.

Smith, 40, is out of contract with Leeds at the end of the season, having been in charge since 2003.

It is rumoured that Smith could step down at Headingley and take over the Lions role immediately, which would leave Leeds looking for a new coach.

The new GB coach will take charge of a mid season international against an as yet unnamed side, before taking charge of the autumn test series against New Zealand.
