Smith rules out Uate signing

Warrington coach Tony Smith says the Wire won’t be signing Newcastle winger Akuila Uate for 2017.

Uate is out of favour at the Knights and had been linked with a move to the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

But Smith told Love Rugby League that Uate won’t be joining his club, and said he isn’t looking at bringing in any new wingers.

“No. Not at this stage, we’re concentrating on this game [The Challenge Cup] and most of our recruitment is pretty much done,” he said.

“For us to change that we’d have to find some more salary cap somewhere but at this stage but we’re pretty well done.”

The Newcastle Herald have reported that Uate is set to join Manly next year.
