Wakefield Wildcats boss Brian Smith has sensationally quit his role as head coach of the club.
Smith has terminated his contract at the Super League club. Wakefield has confirmed that the Australian resigned with immediate effect.
The 61-year old took over at Belle Vue last year after the departure of James Webster.
Smith, who has coached for over three decades in Australia and the UK, led the Wildcats to survival through a win in the Million Pound Game.
In 2016 Wakefield have won just once from the first five rounds of Super League.
