Smith quietly pleased with Wakefield improvement

Wakefield coach Brian Smith may have seen his team lose his first game in charge to Salford, but he did see some positives.

The hardworking attitude of his players particularly pleased him, despite the 16-24 losing scoreline.

“It was a hard-fought game. Our guys did a good job in terms of gritting their teeth and playing in what proved to be really tough conditions,” he said.

“We got significant improvement in our stick in the tackle – when we made contact with them we weren’t bouncing away.

“There is still plenty to work on and there were still some disappointing aspects but by and large it was a solid improvement on last week.”
