Warrington coach Tony Smith is pleased with his side’s character after a tough week.

Smith, 46, says that the Wolves were left feeling a bit ‘flat’ after their Challenge Cup semi-final defeat to Hull FC, but he has praised the reaction of his players during their match yesterday.

Third-placed Warrington were trailing by 18 points just before the halfway mark at Castleford, but they fought back to secure an impressive 40-30 victory.

Smith said, “I was really pleased with the character we showed to fight back and change the momentum of the game.

“The game was all about character for us, especially after the flat few days we had in the aftermath of the Challenge Cup defeat, and I thought we showed bucket loads of it.”

The Wolves are on 35 points, the same as second-placed Wigan, and their next fixture is at home to Wakefield on Sunday.
