Leeds highly rated prop Daniel Smith has joined Oldham on a dual registration.

The Roughyed’s have continued their strong affiliation with Super League champions Leeds as they have provided another youngster to their ranks along with fellow Headingley prospect Colton Roche.

Roche and Smith are not the only Rhino youth’s to have played at Whitehaven, with Matty Syron, Callum Casey and Danny Bravo also featuring for Oldham.

Roughyed boss Tony Benson explained what former Oldhamer Barrie McDermott, now head of youth development at the Rhinos, thinks of the young prop.

He said, “He is very impressed with Smith and particularly with his hand-eye co-ordination. In some aspects he reminds Barrie of the Sculthorpes.

“He thinks Smith has a big future ahead of him and he believes the time he will spend at Oldham will form an important part of his development.”

Smith represented Wakefield service area between 2005 and 2008 and won both Yorkshire Cup and the National Cup with that organisation during his time.
