Skolars two wins away from play-offs

London Skolars still have their play-off destiny in their own hands as they prepare to face Whitehaven on Friday.

Skolars are two points behind Oldham, but can move in to the top six if they win their game in hand against the Cumbrians this weekend, in their traditional “Friday night lights” fixture ahead of the Challenge Cup weekend.

North Wales, who sit on 24 points – one ahead of Skolars – are also in the mix for a top six finish ahead of the final round of games.

A win over Whitehaven means London can guarantee their play-off place with a win over Doncaster on the final day of the season, although the Dons themselves only need a victory to guarantee the Championship 1 title.

Head Coach Joe Mbu said: “While we may have to rely on results elsewhere, I’m sure that two home wins in our last two games would take us into the play-offs.”

Whitehaven, who have already secured promotion to the Championship for next season, will be without Stephen Fox (ankle) for the match, but coach Don Gailer is looking forward to the capital experience.

He said: “We’re sending down about six buses from here, and I’m told there’ll be fans from all over the place.

“It should give all the players a buzz, and it’s just a matter of keeping your head about you. Once you cross that white line you’ve just got to stay focused.

“London have put on some big scores in the last month, and they’re playing some good footy.

“They’re an outside chance for the play-offs, and every game is like a Grand Final for them right now.”
