Sheffield Eagles have confirmed the signing of prop Scott Wheeldon from Castleford Tigers.

The 29-year-old has signed a three-year deal at the club.

“We are thrilled to have brought Scott to Sheffield Eagles,” Eagles director of rugby Mark Aston told his club’s official website.

“Scott’s professionalism, experience and undoubted quality will make him a great addition for this club and I cannot wait to start working with him.

“He has a wealth of experience and he knows what it is like to play in rugby league’s biggest games.

“After chatting at length with Scott and telling him about our plans for the future I knew that he would fit right in here. He comes to me with the highest of recommendations from people I respect in the game with the likes of Daryl Powell and Liam Finn giving him glowing reports.

“Scott is a terrific player and a top class pro, he will have a massive impact both on and off the field with the club as we look to develop some very exciting young players.”

Wheeldon is the Eagles’ fifth signing of the close season as they prepare for going full-time in 2016.

Aston insists that the recruitment process is not complete yet for the South Yorkshire club.

“I am very excited about the business we have done so far and this isn’t the end, we have more deals to announce in the coming days and weeks,” he added.

“The squad is really coming together nicely. We have the right blend of youth and experience and I am really excited with what we can achieve with this group of players.”
