Sheffield sign James Thornton

Sheffield have signed forward James Thornton with immediate effect on a deal until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old made his debut in Wednesday night’s 1895 Cup quarter-final victory over York.

Thornton joined Featherstone from Hemel last June but suffered a season-ending ACL injury.

Eagles coach Mark Aston commented: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring James into the squad.

“We are a little light in the forward pack, and he will provide a further option as we head towards the business end of the season.

“He has had a long, tough recovery and credit to him, he’s has listened to the advice we’ve given him and he’s knuckled down and worked hard to get back.

“Credit to Jack Howieson [coach of Hemel in 2018], he recommended James highly to me and it will be good to get him into training with the boys and into our system.”
