Sheffield Eagles have announced the signing of forward Brandon Douglas from Doncaster on a two-year deal.

Douglas has been with Doncaster since the 2019 season, after signing from Halifax. He made his debut against Newcastle Thunder.

He went on to make 28 appearances for the club, scoring nine tries. The last of which came in Doncaster’s playoff win over Hunslet, where he grabbed a double.

The 24-year-old enjoyed his most prolific season in 2021. He scored five tries in 11 matches for the Dons as they reached the playoff final.

Reacting to his move, Douglas told the club website: “I’m really excited, with the new stadium and everything going on, it is an exciting place to be.

“I’ve enjoyed my time (at Doncaster) but I feel like it’s time to challenge myself in a tougher league.

“I feel that if I am going to develop myself as a player I needed to make the step up now, and Sheffield is the best place for me to do that.

“I’m excited to step back up (to the Championship), I think it’ll be a bit faster, a bit more physical than League 1 but I believe I am ready for that challenge.”

Sheffield Head Coach Mark Aston added: “Brandon has been one of the best players in League 1 this year and he has led from the front at Doncaster.

“Losing the likes of Matt James and Scott Wheeldon is big for us. But we have 100% faith that Brandon will become a fans favourite.

Sheffield continuing to build

Douglas joins his Doncaster teammate Liam Johnson in making the move across South Yorkshire to the Eagles.

There have also been a number of eye-catching transfers. Including Kris Welham from Featherstone, Ross Oakes from Bradford and Jason Bass from York.
