Sheffield has beaten fellow Championship side Dewsbury by 24 points in a Tetley’s Stadium friendly.

Sheffield struck first, Rob Worrincy getting the try. Jason Muranka soon tied it up with a diving four-pointer for the Rams.

Mike Knowles then pounced on a grubber kick to put the Eagles 12-6 in front, a position they would not yield. Debutant Elliot Minchello crossed next for Sheffield, with Knowles converting.

Just before half-time Dewsbury’s Josh Guzdek touched down to set a 18-10 scoreline at the break.

Sheffield started the second period positively with Menzie Yere breaking through to score. Ben Blackmore was the next Eagle to touch down.

Dewsbury managed to hit back through Jason Crookes, who made it 28-14.

But it was mostly one-way traffic as Sheffield kept attacking and were rewarded when Ryan Millar finished off a lovely move.

That try wrapped up the game and the 38-14 win for the Eagles.
