Sheffield loan pair to Oldham

Sheffield Eagles have loaned Dave Hewitt and Jack Blagbrough to Oldham Roughyeds until the end of the 2016 season.

Hewitt and Blagbrough have both struggled to gain a place in Mark Aston’s starting 17 over the past couple of months and the move will allow them to gain valuable playing time.

Sheffield’s Director of Rugby Mark Aston said: “It’s a good move for both Dave (Hewitt) and Jack (Blagbrough). Both are young, upcoming players and need game time to further develop.

“With the loan signings of halfback Stan Robin and forward Thibaut Margalet, they will struggle further to get into the squad and it’s a move that will help them both.

“Whilst we are loaning players to a club we are on level pegging with in the league (both clubs have 12 points) and beat us last week, it’s a move that is beneficial for both clubs.

“We have a good relationship with Oldham and I’d like to thank Chris Hamilton for helping to finalise these deals.

“We are still on the look out to potentially bring some players in and will work up to the deadline at the end of this month to try and do that.”

Both players could be in contention for Oldham’s match against Swinton Lions this weekend.
